Retained stations are not permanently staffed, but the appliances on these stations are able to be mobilised within five minutes of a call. They are staffed by firefighters working on the retained duty system. They typically have full time jobs outside of the fire and rescue service and respond from either work or home to their fire station when an emergency call is received.
