The Committee meets as and when required. Functions of the Joint Consultative Committee are:
- Assisting the Service in maintaining good employment relations in the interest of providing the highest level of service to residents of County Durham and Darlington
- Consider any employment relations issues relating to the Service, although no item shall be referred to the Joint Consultative Committee unless it has been considered through the Service's normal consultation and negotiating procedure with the relevant unions (except for issues agreed by the Chair of Joint Consultative Committee to be urgent).
- The Committee has no decision making powers: its aim is to resolve issues through consensus but it has the power to make recommendations to the Combined Fire and Rescue Authority.
