Long-serving staff honoured at special award ceremony in Durham

Fire service staff have been recognised for their years of dedication to serving the community.

A total of 45 members of County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) were honoured with Long Service Awards during a special celebration event at Durham Town Hall.

The event, which took place on Wednesday, June 12, saw members of the service's ‘Fire Family’ receive medals marking 20, 30, and 40 years with CDDFRS.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Executive and Treasurer Tony Hope was honoured for an incredible 45 years of service during the celebration.

The Long Service Awards were presented to staff in both operational and corporate roles including Firefighters, Directors, Driver Trainers, HR and Finance. 

Chief Fire Officer Steve Helps said: “I am delighted to present staff with their Long Service Awards which honours their decades of hard work and loyalty to County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.

"They are all a vital part of our Fire Family who have devoted their careers to helping deliver a high-quality fire service that meets the needs of our communities.

“I want to congratulate everyone on their award and say thank you for their service.”

Cllr John Shuttleworth, chair of County Durham and Darlington Combined Fire Authority, said: “It is fantastic to see dedicated fire and rescue staff honoured with Long Service Awards.

“They have made a vital contribution to keeping our communities safe through their years of hard work.”
