When the weather turns a little bit colder many of us will be starting to use our home heating systems and appliances for the first time in quite a few months. Before you do so, think…..when was the last time your heating system was checked by a professional and is it still safe?
If your heating system uses a chimney or flue you should ensure they are kept clean and well maintained. The latest statistics show that there are approximately 6,000 chimney fires a year in England, but most of these are preventable. If you use a gas powered system, did you know that every year about 14 people die from carbon monoxide poisoning caused by gas appliances and flues which have not been properly installed or maintained. Many others also suffer ill health. You should have your gas appliances checked at least every 12 months by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
