A Peterlee IT disposal company has donated hundreds of pounds for a charity close to the hearts of Firefighters in County Durham and Darlington.

Protech City donated £500 to The Fire Fighters Charity in August after forming a partnership with County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) earlier this year.

The company, who holds UK GDPR approved industry certification, supports businesses across the region to securely destroy data on old electronic devices, whilst safely disposing and recycling the equipment to be sold on.

It was recently tasked with clearing data from laptops and other IT devices no longer needed by CDDFRS and decided to use the opportunity to show their appreciation for the Service by donating to The Fire Fighters Charity.

Protech City CEO, Ian Murphy, said: “At the start of the year we formed a partnership with CDDFRS to refresh the Service’s IT kit.

“We made sure all data was erased from old laptops, desktops and other devices from the Service and then we were able to recycle some of the kit to be sold.

“From the proceeds of this, we have donated £500 to The Fire Fighters Charity.

“We are a Peterlee based company, located close to Peterlee Fire Station, and so it made sense to us to show our support for this amazing charity which helps Firefighters and their families.”

CDDFRS is delighted by company’s generosity to the charity which offers lifelong health and wellbeing support for the UK fire and rescue community.

A CDDFRS spokesperson said: “It is great to work closely with local businesses in the area that we serve.

“The company have used this opportunity to raise funds that will help to make a real difference to those in our Fire Family.”
